Ibberton Hill looking North to Sturminster Newton

This was the pretty pretty bit of our walk. We are close to the coast at home and just do not get snow, so it was enjoyable to do this walk partly through snow.

I love landscapes and the repeating curves attracted me, the bonus was the snow on the ground. The valley was free of snow and the contrast also appealed to me.

Comments:
Rex: a much more sympathetic treatment of Southern England than mine (even allowing for the fact that Dorset is more attractive than Bedfordshire). The photo evokes time and place really well.

It's a slight pity that it's a crop but it undoubtedly helps accentuate that lovely set of curves you talk about. The contrast between this secluded fold near the hill top and the wider picture beyond talks about the uses to which this landscape has been put over the millenia: one can imagine the pattern of habitation and agriculture before the Romans, maybe even in Saxon times.

This thin coating of snow makes the visual contrast well and helps bring out the details in the foreground. Dorset is a county that I love but should know better. I went to Sherborne prep but then became a Devonian! My parents settled on the border eventually so my 'patch' was Lyme Regis to Charmouth.

Beautiful colours too.

The image was taken at 25mm (50mm eq)and I played with various focal lengths to get the sine/sigmoid curve of the main ridge. I wanted the copse with its hint of green to nest in the cusp of the curve. I was also attracted by the complement of the curve created by the bushes/copse and snow free field.

The full frame image had too much foreground and I felt it detracted from my intent. I could have used a longer focal length and stitched but honestly, I didn't think!

love the curves of the landscape (and the scenery as a whole). the compo appears as a panorama and gives a good feeling for the wideness here. interesting to see the snowy foreground while the BG is without snow. also love the clearness of this winter scene. good sharpness and details. my only suggestion would be to lighten the near FG a bit. the dark bits of the snow attracted too much attention IMHO.
indeed to stitch some tele shots would have been a nice variation but the normal focal lenght worked well. at least for me.
